Ireland fines Meta hundreds of millions of dollars
The American IT corporation Meta received a fine of 390 million euros (413 million dollars) from the Irish Data Protection Commission.
After investigating complaints filed back in 2018, the regulator ruled that social networks Facebook (banned in Russia) and Instagram (banned in Russia) owned by the IT giant illegally used user data to target ads.
The commission said in a statement released on Wednesday that Internet platforms owned by the Russian-banned corporation are required to change their approach to advertising.
According to Reuters, the total amount of fines imposed by the Irish authorities on Mark Zuckerberg's corporation has now reached 1.3 billion euros. The regulator continues to investigate 11 more cases related to the activities of the owner of Facebook and Instagram.
